Calgary Herald Article Feb 24

A full page feature article of the tour in the Calgary Herald has certainly got the buzz going! It is well written and a great way to kick off the media campaign to Calgary (and all my patients!!). The links to the article is http://www.calgaryherald.com/Calgary+doctor+plans+beat+seasonal+affective+disorder+step+time/2610154/story.html
Thanks Michelle Magnan for taking the time to "get it right".

So a good day of riding, runnning, (work - does it ever end) and watching at least a bit more of the Olympics. Just can't get enough of all the inspiration of these amazing Canadians. Win or lose we are showing the world how we do it in Canada.

Newsletter will be written today and sent out on Monday, look out for another contest with prizes, prizes, prizes!!!

Pratap Chokka in Calgary

Attended an excellent talk tonight by Edmonton psychiatrist Dr Pratap Chokka, some "cutting edge" thoughts about pathophysiology and prevention, as well as non pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment, definitley a few things for me to think about and further research for my own talks in the future.

Supportive / loving environment, lifestyle, diet, exercise, mindfulness - are these the keys to not allowing depression to surface even in a genetically prone "vulnerable brain", can we prolong remission and prevent relapse with these? So many questions - it's all very exciting and positive.

It was all worth missing the Olympics (for just one night) - I mean if Canada can't blow Germany off the ice - they really are in trouble against the Russians tomorrow night !!

PHOTO SHOOT

On a beautifully sunny day yesterday I was literally running through snowdrifts and bush to get "just the right" shot for upcoming Calgary Herald article.  Christina was shooting up a storm lying in the snow and getting her gear wet (oops). It was fun and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Michele Magnan's article should run by the end of the upcoming week and should be an inspiring insider's view of dr j coming out of the mental health closet and revealing all.

There is no turning back - the campaign that we call SAD no more has arrived and is poised to transform the nation. You heard it first right here at sad no more blog central. Have a super Sunday - GO Canada GO (maybe we'll have a better day today - Sat at the winter O was downright painful!)

Tour schedule is finalized

Monique has spent hours and hours in a love affair with G. Maps and T. Tick but has finally set the Tour Schedule in stone. Still starting on Aug 1st in Victoria, it will end much sooner than planned hitting St John’s NF on Oct 17th. All the changes were needed so that the tour would be at specific centres on weekdays, as opposed to weekends, for the medical education events and public forums. Quite a number of centres have been chosen and the total number of formal educational events planned is well over 25 already and counting - and I LOVE this support!
