Mining SAD – Striking awareness in Sudbury is Super!

SNM Tour Day #40

Just a short blog today – no road work, no road stories.

Given that we arrived a day ahead of schedule, I was able to squeeze in a live CBC radio interview this am with the slick morning host Markus Schwabe and even got airplay of title track “SAD no more” song – yeah! (Markus quipped – “it better be good” – I countered, “it’s me playing accordion and kazoo in my bath tub, I think your audience will enjoy it”. Not sure if he turned a bit pale for a second, the lighting in the studio was a bit dim. Moved on to interviews with CHNO and Sudbury Living Magazine, with a live CTV interview just after noon and a quick interview with Sudbury Sun this afternoon. I started writing this blog in the morning as the day was unfolding, and filled in later in the afternoon so who knows what will really transpire by the time we finish off – might be abducted by aliens or even more unlikely, get some much needed rest/sleep. We will be meeting with the folks from the CMHA who will host a public forum tonight which I am really looking forward to.

Bye to Gina and our brief but news packed visit, bye to Tammy and a big thanks for hosting us with open arms and bye to Les, our companion over the last week (see yesterday’s blog for details). We pick up Bob who will run and cycle along for a few days as we make our way to the Ottawa region, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet. We are still in Sudbury, catching up / reorganizing /regrouping for another good long stretch of mileage.

Tour Day Sponsor - Larry Jacobson and Barjac Construction, thanks for building up the tour!

Follow-up, final post of the day. Just finished public forum which went very well.  Well attended with an engaged and attentive audience with good discussion at the end.  Thanks to Marion and Chantal and all the local CMHA chapter workers for hosting a very productive event. I must say, as far as media and mental health awareness - SUDBURY ROCKS! #1 in my books.

By the way, we didn't get abducted by aliens, but did get taken out for supper by a great group of women - surrounded by women all night - it's a very rough life out here on the road.

Bye Tammy (and thanks so much again) and hello Bob who will be running and cycling along over the next few days

Final note - while still in the land of nickle, a random quote of the day
One must be poor to know the luxury of giving

  3. It was very difficult to say goodbye to Les as she left us in Sudbury. We kept it real light at the airport but let me tell you, I will really miss her!

    Thanks again Les!
