By Jove, we're sleeping in Arnold's Cove - In two dawns we'll be in St John's!!

This is what we arrived to last evening
Or if you looked in the opposite direction
Either way - paradise!!

SNM Tour Day #76
and here's the same view today  in the early morning fog.

A beautifully sunny day - ALL DAY!! (this has been a rarity for the past few weeks).  We were warned that it would be hilly and hilly it was - ALL DAY!! Had two steep ascents during the run which was a bit of a prelude to how the day would be.  The cycle was a good solid work out and we put in as much mileage as possible today as the weather forecast calls for heavy rains and big winds for Saturday and Sunday. So we pushed onward today and ended off the day with only 40 some odd km left to St. John's.  We have a full day to do this - so no matter how bad the weather is tomorrow, we will make it to the outskirts of the city so we can do the ceremonial ride in to complete the tour on Sunday morning at "Mile 0" (the other Mile 0). We have a videographer all set up and hopefully the media (and maybe even a police escort through the city - we'll see.....)

We are sooooooooooooo close to finishing things off at this point.  Nothing can stop us at this point, even if I have to crawl the last 40 km, it will be done!!

Marc and Colette have been absolutely great to have in this final push to the coast - supportive, helpful, laid back and always there when you need them.  A great big thanks to Vanessa who billeted us in Arnold's Cove this evening.  Talking with her, there were so many similar stories and a few people that we both know etc.  She was a very gracious host, a delight to meet and we were treated to a great meal and conversation.

I got to play a little 12 string guitar (I haven't touched my own guitar for months) and a little piano - felt very, very good. I have a few songs kicking around in my head in the last week or so and I'm sure that I will have an artistic outburst when this tour is finally complete and I can let this expression out.  For now, it's still all about SAD no more - running, cycling (not much more), speaking still lots and lots more!

Tour Day Sponsor is Brian Hunter - thanks so much again.

(Not so) Random Quotes of the Day (as the end is in sight)

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.
Abraham Lincoln

I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end.
Abraham Lincoln

I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end... I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me.
Abraham Lincoln

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
Winston Churchill

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.
T.S. Eliot

  1. In the immortal words of Frank Sinatra and Paul Anka...
And now, the end is near,
And so I face the final curtain.
    My friends, I'll say it clear;
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.

    I've lived a life that's full -
I've travelled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
    I did it my way.

    As usual, all my love!

  2. Dear Ted, Monique, Marc & Colette -
What beauty to grace your last full day...So glad you have each other's support. Hopefully today went ok - and that it is good news that it's 8pm Newfoundland time and you haven't yet posted. I hear tales of snow in the northeast...so wondering...gorgeous here !

Wore my Canadian Provinces maple leaf shirt and SADnomore coloured bracelet in solidarity...and will bike tomorrow 'in spirit'.
Delighted to know that your creativity is ready to release some tunes...as your mission moves to accomplishment....continuing with TS Eliot's Little Gidding from the Four Quartets to the near conclusion....

"When the last of earth left to discover
    Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
    Quick now, here, now, always—
    A condition of complete simplicity
    (Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well..."

    Love "to the end", Leanne

So happy all is well and you are able to go with the flow. Change is in the now, like the wind and water who is both your friend and foe.
