N.imbly S.lipped into N.ova S.cotia, our N.inth S.traight province

SNM TOUR Day #62

It's OCTOBER 1st, August 1st seems like a lifetime ago

8 provinces down, 2 to go - WOW.
We spent the day cleaning up and re-organizing (why does this sound so familiar and repetitve?) for the last leg of our tour.  It was another glorious day on the island, warm and very breezy.  Thanks to Margaret for the hospitality and thanks to Craig who we never did meet in person for saying "yes" to the arrangements.

It was a day off the road as we had done all the mileage right up to the border (ferry crossing) yesterday.  We got a quick peek at the wonderful Dunes Gallery which we absolutely adore, and then dropped off Leanne at the airport and picked up Eric.  Leanne was flying out to Ottawa and Eric was flying in from Calgary via Toronto. As it turns out Eric's plane became Leanne's plane - truly a seamless SAD no more transition.  Before she leaves back to Dayton Ohio, we will see Leanne again.  We will all be attending the MIAW gala in Ottawa in a few days.  It is very special to have family being an integral part of this tour!

So goodbye to Leanne for now, so long to the always picturesque little PEI and a big hello to Nova Scotia.

Tour Day Sponsor is Canada diagnostic Centres, thanks again for your support.

MIAW (Mental Illness Awareness Week) 2010 is days away.  If you live in Canada, I sincerely hope their National media campaign will reach you in one form or another.  Please do not hesitate to leave a note in the "comments" section if you spot any media in the upcoming week (newspaper, radio, television, magazine, bookmarks, internet,  billboards, planes flying with banners, sky writing, fireworks displays, subliminal messages in movies, smoke signals...... ) Sorry, I have not exercised enough today and there is a bit too much energy kicking around.

  1. I've been following your informative blogs, breath taking pictures and noteable quotes, since you arrived in Sudbury. Being impressed with your ambitious mission to raise mental illness awareness, I've since back tracked to read your earlier reports too. Wow! As you now near the last weeks of your phenominal journey, I'd like to say "Thank you!" You likely made an unmeasurable, but very significant and positive difference for many readers, and listeners, as you personally ran, cycled and shared your expertise as you travelled those many miles across Canada. Well done!

  2. Part of yesterday's fun for me was hanging the sheets and towels laundry at Margaret's on a clothesline in very high winds...and trying to remember the techniques of yore.

Unfortunately too many neighborhoods I've been in now frown on outdoor clotheslines and hanging...so society has created detergents and fabric softeners to attempt to simulate the freshness feel...

Kudos to you Margaret and many others who don't have a drier - certainly an energy saver, and nothing can beat the fresh air REAL thing !

    Welcome Eric !
Was great to see you from a distance as you de-boarded and I sat in the security cleared gate area....Look forward to Monday when we can talk.

Strange to step into 10 degrees C cooler weather! Hope the ferry ride was enjoyable, and safe journey all!

  3. October 1st was a very special day for both Ted and I as our son Eric was able to join us on tour. We had not expected to be able to share this journey with him "in person" due to his current work schedule so his being here makes this so much more heart-warming.

And in Eric-only-fashion, upon arrival he jumped into the co-pilot seat and plugged us into his ipod...the Sunshine Beast was rockin' before we left the airport parking lot. Off we went on another leg of the tour...the musical leg, I suspect.

We crossed into Nova Scotia and arrived late at our campground. Eric immediately got a campfire going...a tour first! After dinner he coaxed me out of the RV into the pitch black night and to the cliff edge where we laid down in the grass to marvel at the very starry starry night...no other word for it but WOW!!! We also enjoyed the winks from the many lighthouses dotting the PEI shoreline on the other side of the Northumberland Strait.

Enough fun...after a quick RV 101 review, today we put him to work driving so that I could get some paper work done. Now if only I could get him to stop checking emails and dj-ing while driving, I'd probably be happier.

Our daughter Gabrielle joined us twice during the tour and both times she played very important roles. The first time was when we embarked on this adventure in Victoria and she was key at getting us "connected" to our various social media. Her second "tour of duty" happened around my birthday and having her there was extremely special to me as I was feeling particularly homesick around then.

Having Eric join us "on tour" as we near the end of this cross Canada trek seems to complete some part of the tour for us as we've now been able to share it with both our kids.
