SOO SWEET - we are in the SOO

SNM Tour Day #37

Happy long w/e, alas, the last holiday of the summer has come and will soon be gone! For all the SAD sufferers, this spells the first warning alarm to look ahead and start to think about putting therapeutic plans into place for the fall(yes, even in the first week of September)

Here in Ontario they take labour day extremely seriously - almost every store is closed apart from little tourist shops and convenience stores.  Thankfully Monique and Les found an M+M store and stocked up - we were pretty low in the protein department, and coming to the end of what seems like an unlimited supply of fruits and vegetables.

It was a bit of a dreary, overcast day again.  The thermometer read 16 degrees in the afternoon but it certainly felt cooler with the humidity. It felt like Fall was in the air -  Fortunately we only saw a few drops of rain all day.  The wind was not as onerous and there were less hills, although one particularly long and steep one perked my attention.  The traffic got heavier and heavier as the day progressed and people were leaving their cabins ("camps" as they say in these parts and started heading home, knowing there was little more to squeeze out of this cloudy day).

We stopped at an interesting set of stores of native handicrafts and wood carvings (Agawa Crafts Canadian Carver) and had a bit of fun.  The rest was getting in a solid day of mileage to get us to the Soo - exactly a full day ahead of schedule.  Good old Sault Ste Marie - home of Dr. Roberta Bondar, first Canadian female in space (if you were wondering).  We have now gone completely around the North Shore of Lake Superior and will now follow along the North Channel of Luke Huron as we start to move north of the great lakes.

Tour Day Sponsor - Boehringer-Ingelheim, thanks so much Rhonda Warner, hope your "new life" is going well!!

Signs seen on the Trans Canada today

Your moment is waiting

(great quote but unfortunately for a casino - there were a lot of billboards advertising what seemed like an endless list of casinos)

Prepare to meet thy God

(not exactly sure why this large sign was nestled in the trees on this part of the highway - as a very long truck with a rather impatient trucker had just brushed past us, I mumbled under my breath - "not yet, not yet, got a few more miles to go....")

Very random quote of the day
A little voice inside my head said,
"Don't look back. You can never look back"
D Henley
(I have taken this quite literally at times when I hear truck brakes and / or a loud truck horn behind. I take this much less literally the rest of the time)
